School Evacuates Children to Safety

Norton Summit Primary School SA to trial new cutting-edge technology

All schools should have evacuation processes practiced ready for possible implementation. At present the end result of this is likely to be a congregation of children, taken out of the crisis situation and assembled at a predetermined point, in most cases the school oval.

But in a real-life crisis will children be safe there? Where do the students go from there?

Norton Summit School has found the solution with EAARS (Emergency, Alert, Action and Response System). This system enables schools to smooth a path to a solution, while providing calm through its unique world patented technology.

Designed by former teacher and school principal, Peter Cap this unique system is a new communication technology that integrates online two-way bulk SMS text messaging and offsite online database systems analysis for activation, individual message receipt confirmation and individual action response reporting.

Norton Summit Primary School is a typical Australian country school nestled in the wooded Adelaide Hills catering for primary and junior primary school students in classes from Reception to Year 7. The classrooms are located in various buildings on campus with a central library complex.

The topography of the region is challenging from an emergency managers perspective with the only one access for evacuation the roadway adjacent to the school. The school has developed a three tiered emergency and lockdown plan that identifies all the physical obstacles to a rapid evacuation and or lockdown and has incorporated the EAARS system into its plan. The school negotiated the plan through meetings with EAARS personnel and the school emergency manager Tanya Frohloff.

A whole school mock evaluation using the EAARS system will be held at Norton Summit Primary School this Friday  which will proceed exactly as if in a real-life emergency situation.
